When am I charged and how does Illuminate calculate its advisory fees?

Updated over a month ago

Our advisory fees are collected directly from your investment account. Fees will be charged on the first U.S. business day of the next month. This means we charge "in arrears," which simply means you pay for services after you've received them, similar to how you might pay a utility bill after using electricity for the month rather than before. If you close your account mid-month, the monthly fee will still be charged, but please reach out to support if you have any questions and we can help you.

Our fee is $3.99 per month. There's no minimum balance required to maintain your account. This plan gives you complete access to our investing platform.

What does the fee get you?

For all Illuminate accounts, your $3.99 monthly fee covers:

  • Access to guided investing portfolios

  • Automated proxy voting for sustainability-forward policies

  • Ability to invest in any individual stocks and ETFs commission-free

  • Market-leading climate and sustainability data and insights for your portfolio and across every company and fund

  • The investment advice you receive, including portfolio management and administration

  • Trading and custody fees

  • Access to our Climate Center with educational content

Are there any transaction fees?

We do not charge you additional transaction fees to buy and sell securities within your portfolios or for individual stock and ETF trades. Any fund held in your portfolio will assess fund-level fees, called expense ratios, but Illuminate aims to keep these costs low, and we receive no part of these fees.
